The "incoherence" is true clarity. Hormones rule. But we are blessed. Nature gave us this opportunity and a reason to be completely irrational and sometimes, it is the perfect response to the mystery of life. And if you choose it, you will be sexy until the end of time. Menopause may put an end to your ability to breed, but it doesn't change who you are. I think it actually made me better, and definitely wiser.

I feel this as a man, so when I think about how much more intense it is for women, all I can do is raise my glass and tell you, respect. Big ass respect.

Brilliant!

Humans are a perfect balance of body and soul. Imagining that we're one or the other is what throws us off.

Thank you for reminding me.

As someone who gave birth at 43, I do feel you. I said many times that being pre-menopausal with a toddler was probably not the best case scenario for either of us. But it all worked out ok. Hopefully I didn’t traumatize my son so terribly, he has grown up to be an amazing human. Also, you can still be sexy, even after menopause.

Me wondering why everything is setting me off, and I erupt at the stupidest things: my period the next day: “me hi I’m the problem it’s me”

Love this so much! The alien-ness of these feelings - I know they are not "mine* but they are still consuming me - is so frustrating to experience and hard to express.

I felt every word. I've also had many times in my life when I've felt, without a doubt, that my body has betrayed me.

Our culture has wired us to feel frustration, even anger, when our bodies interrupt our plans. Heck, from the time we're young girls, we've heard in countless ways how our female bodies are not to be trusted.

Without our bodies, we aren't here. Period.

As a non-uterus owner I of course can’t truly relate. Male hormonal effects might result in wars and really bad people running a country into the ground but they don’t take over our bodies like a slightly more benign Alien.

Your description is probably as close as I’ll ever come and as close as I would want to.

Is there a positive rebound reaction when it releases you from its clutches, of centered creativity?

You are right, the flesh always seems to write the story. Here I am in my 50's, and it is still doing the same.

Great read, Lindsay.

Ooof, feeling this! I've been chatting with my friend this morning about her success with intermittent fasting and I have already personally experienced the wonders of fasting, so when I read your post to her, she said, "Tell her about Fast Like a Girl." Basically giving your system a break from food on a schedule that honors your womanly cycle naturally balances your hormones and helps us get a grip on biology. The book is great, but you can just google the eating schedule and start feeling more sane asap without changing what you eat, just when you eat. Hope this comes across as helpful and not preachy. It's the most simple solution I've discovered thus far for my own hormonal imbalance. PS You still exude the sexy, badass rockstar you are and I doubt that will fade because as I've followed you, you've only become more interesting and more attractive. You've got this!

I feel this so hard. So, so hard. It's always a struggle to let go and accept the body's input.
